Celebrating the Queens Birthday
Another very exhausting but extremely worthwhile weekend having laid on another Annual Birthday Party here in the Village.
As a foreigner and also non Orthodox, I don’t have a family patron saint, hence don’t celebrate a family Slava as most Orthodox Christians here do.
Listen to the Balkan Adventures Podcast above to find out more.
Being invited to local Slavas is a privilege I know and it’s customary to reciprocate.
So my reciprocal celebration is a traditional British event and that is, the official Birthday of the Sovereign.
The second Saturday in June therefore, is when a tiny part of BiH becomes British for a few hours.
This year Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second was toasted after a very social meal based on a “Curry Lunch”.
Heres the Menu we had:
Mild Chicken Curry
Mild Vegan Curry
Fruity Pillau Rice
Mint, Raisin and Lemon Couscous
Egg Mayonnaise Sandwiches
Traditional Roast Pork and Chicken
English Style Tea
